Super Rare – 1956 Volvo Sport P1900 When Volvo presented an open 2-seater sports car with a body made of fibreglass-reinforced polyester in 1954, it was something of a sensation. However, the car did not go into production until 1956 and, after a great many problems, production was wound up in 1957.
How the Volvo P1900 might have fared in the U.S. market became a moot point when Gabrielsson’s successor at Volvo, Gunnar Engelau borrowed one for the weekend. Volvo's convertible would have to wait for another market in order to be seen in quantity.
